Cage's Idea in 1952 to sit at a piano for four minutes and 33 seconds is something that had never been done before. If I had paid to go see him perform for the first time I would probably be upset. I think Cage was ahead of his time. I think he had a great idea to try and get people to take a step back and tune into their environment and to let the environment be the entertainment. I do think that Cage was a musician but I also think he was way more than that, he really made people appreciate the noise and the beauty of it all. I was really surprised when the article mentioned that Cage was not paid for the premiere of 4'33. He was well above the poverty line but lived on a strict tight budget. Later in the reading, they talk about how he would pick mushrooms on his strolls in the streets of New York City. He was supplying bougie restaurants in New York City with restraunts including the Four Seasons. My initial impression of Cage is that he is. very simple, down-to-earth man. Cage had a really interesting life and his legacy is still here. Although this was not mentioned in the article we were assigned I really like the idea of the app that you mentioned last week in class that allows people to record four-minute and third seconds of their day or sound and then post it and then other people can hear it too.
